Johnny Depp’s wife files for divorce in LA; Depp Asks Court to Reject Heard's Claim for Spousal Support
LOS ANGELES — Johnny Depp’s wife Amber Heard has filed for divorce in Los Angeles, citing irreconcilable differences after just 15 months of marriage.
She filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court and she is seeking spousal support from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor. She listed their date of separation as Sunday. The ex-couple has no children together.
They don't have prenuptial agreement. Johnny Depp has asked a court to determine that he should not pay spousal support to his estranged wife Amber Heard. Court records show Depp filed the response Wednesday to Heard's divorce petition. His response also requests that the actress pay her own attorney fees.
The two met while filming the movie “The Rum Diary” in 2011. The couple also have been involve in a dispute with Australia’s deputy prime minister, who last year threatened to euthanize their dogs, Boo and Pistol, after they were illegally smuggled into Australia. Heard pleaded guilty last month to falsifying documents to conceal the pets when she arrived by private jet to join her husband on the set of the 5th movie in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series.
Depp and Heard were married at their Los Angeles home in February 2015 after getting engaged in 2012.
The pair videotaped an apology as part of a deal that allowed Heard to avoid a conviction. But the actors have been derided because of their wooden deliveries in the film.
Depp has one previous marriage and was in a long relationship with French actress and model Vanessa Paradis before he began dating Heard.
Depp’s latest film, “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” will be released on Friday.
